Canine Heritage Breed Test Now Available at PETCO.com

Barking up the family tree has never been easier with new cutting-edge DNA testing for mixed-pedigree pups - now available to pet parents at PETCO.com.

Customers visiting PETCO online can now purchase the Canine Heritage Breed Test and the newly expanded Canine Heritage XL Breed Test, which use DNA technology to genetically identify the make-up of mixed-breed dogs.

Developed by MetaMorphix, Inc. (MMI), the non-invasive CHBT test kit includes a cheek swab that is rubbed along the inside of a dog's cheek to collect cells. The swab is then mailed to an MMI lab for DNA analysis and results are sent back to the pet owner in four to six weeks.

Launched early last year, the Canine Heritage Breed Test has garnered national media attention along with thousands of satisfied customers. It now joins PETCO's industry-leading assortment of innovative products that make it easier for pet parents to love and care for their companion animals as part of their family.

PETCO Foundation Raises Nearly $2 Million for Animals in Need

Tens of thousands of PETCO customers are making a difference in the lives of animals in need after giving generously to the PETCO Foundation's annual Spring A Pet fundraiser.

During the six-week campaign this spring, more than 900 PETCOs across the country collected donations on behalf of local animal shelters, with thousands of pet parents giving to the cause.

The makers of PEDIGREE Brand food for dogs joined in, donating $1 for each purchase of
PEDIGREE products of $10 or more, for a total of $50,000.

Together, the Spring A Pet campaign raised $1.95 million, with all donations staying in local communities.

"In these tough economic times, our customers' compassion and selfless giving are making a big difference for animal welfare groups and the companion animals they help," said Beth Mars, PETCO Foundation director of operations and development. "We appreciate our customers' support - and we are so grateful for the generous donation from PEDIGREE Brand so that local groups across the country can carry out the important work of helping animals."

In addition to donating money to the fundraiser, PEDIGREE Brand also covered the printing costs of store signs promoting the campaign, saving the PETCO Foundation approximately $35,000.
