Tree of Hope Raises Nearly $2.6 Million
PETCO's and the PETCO Foundation's Tree of Hope fundraiser is now one for the history books. Over $2,575,000 was raised. That will definitely go a long way to helping a lot of animals across the country.
To our wonderful and generous customers, vendors and associates: may the New Year bring you health and joy and may part of that joy be the knowledge that your unwavering support of Tree of Hope has not only helped sustain the lives of animals in need of care and compassion but also helped nourish the spirit of hope at the PETCO Foundation.

Chica gets a second chance
When my cell phone rang that Sunday in the middle of my yard work, I left the lawn mower in the yard. It was the same call I often get --the call I usually dread. This time it was about "Chica," and her time had run out.
"The shelter only has so much space," they said. "If you cannot come we will have to euthanize her later this evening."
I had to drop everything and run.
Within minutes I was at the gate of the animal shelter waiting for my new foster. I knew she was a Chihuahua, but knew nothing else about her. A staff member soon came out with a little barking bundle. That must be her I thought, great, another barker, just what I needed. She had a tremendous odor coming from her rotting teeth. No wonder she ran out of time, I thought, Who would adopt this?
I could barely stand the ride home; the smell was overwhelming. I knew I did the right thing when as I looked over at my passenger seat and saw her standing up at the window she was looking at the shelter fading in the distance as if to say, "I'm out of here."
Unfortunately, they are not all as lucky as Chica or Pumpkin as she is now known. Not everyone gets a ride to a new home. Sadly many are euthanized when their time runs out.
You have a chance to help though, a chance to save some of them. Please donate to the Tree of Hope Fundraiser.
Pumpkin has found a new home -- we have been very happy together for over a year now. All of her teeth have been removed, but that has not slowed her down. She loves to stare at me and I often wonder why, but I bet she knows what may have come of her and I bet she's thankful.

Nothing like a sweet smelling pooch!
PETCO's grooming salons are only offering the Warm Gingerbread Vanilla grooming package through Dec. 24. It includes a warm gingerbread vanilla shampoo and spritz, spray-on detangler, Pro Sheen coat conditioner, tooth brushing and best of all sparkling green or red nail polish (while supplies last).
I am taking my dog tomorrow. I want to make sure that he is smelling clean for all of our holiday guests!

Photos with Santa
So, Parker and I never made it to PETCO to get our pictures taken with Santa, but more than 40,000 other pets did!!
WOW -- that means that more than $200,000 was raised for local animal shelters in one day! The pictures were so cute. Here are some for your viewing pleasure (Parker is included too, only he didn't make it for the photos because he wasn't too happy in his "Dear Santa: Define Naughty" T-shirt; check out his mug)

Fundraiser Hopes to Raise Millions for Pets in Need
 The PETCO Foundation's Annual Tree of Hope fundraiser is now underway in hopes of raising more than $2 million for animals in need nationwide.
Now through Dec. 24th, PETCO customers can help make a difference for hundreds of pets by purchasing card ornaments for a $1, $5, $10 or $20 donation. Customers donating $20 or more will receive a PETCO Foundation ceramic ornament. Last year's fundraiser generated more than $2.7 million.
Money raised locally stays in the community and region. Each PETCO store selects an animal welfare group, and then collects donations on that organization's behalf. Customers can also donate online at PETCO.com.
Additionally, PETCO's pet insurance partner,  PetCare Pet Insurance Programs -- offered and owned by Pethealth Inc., will donate $5 for each PetCare pet insurance policy activated during the fundraiser.
Millions of homeless pets in our nation's shelters lose their chance to love because they have been given up for one reason or another. Tree of Hope provides much needed funding to local rescue organizations that provide homeless animals with a second chance to live and love.
PETCO encourages customers to consider adoption before the purchase of any companion animal -- even if it's one of the birds, reptiles, or small animals currently offered in PETCO stores. We also encourage anyone looking to give a pet as a gift this holiday season to consider a gift card so that the recipient may choose their next companion animal themselves.
