Wednesday, August 29, 2007 Attention PETCO and Racing Fans...
At the NASCAR Busch series race in Fontana, Calif. this Saturday Greg Biffle, one of the country’s top racecar drivers, will take the track in a racecar that has PETCO emblazoned on the hood, thanks to a sponsorship funded by 3M Pet Care.
As part of the "treat yourself to the races" sweepstakes, sponsored by PETCO and 3M Pet Care, three lucky sweepstakes winners will watch the PETCO car race live and meet Greg Biffle.
You can catch the race on ESPN2 at 7:00 p.m. Pacific on Saturday, Sept. 1.
In conjunction with PETCO and 3M, the sweepstakes was also sponsored by the Greg Biffle Foundation which creates awareness and serves as an advocate to improve the well-being of animals by engaging the power and passion of the motor sports industry. The Foundation donates to local Humane Societies, no-kill animal shelters, spay and neuter clinics and the Animal Adoption League.
Greg Biffle said this earlier this week:
"I'm excited for the Busch race at California this weekend...We're still looking for that first win of the season. We finished fifth in the spring race at California so hopefully we can improve on that. We've also got PETCO on the hood of our car for a 3M promotion which is very cool because of my charitable work with animals. My dogs are big PETCO fans and love to go there for toys and treats."

Tuesday, August 07, 2007 Round Up Raises Over $800,000 for the Animals!
"I would thank you from the bottom of my heart, but for you my heart has no bottom," someone said to me recently at an adoption event in Alabama, and it is so appropriate now when I think of how grateful the PETCO Foundation is for the results of Round Up/Spay Today 2007. Together -- customers, associates and vendors -- we raised nearly $830,000.
Support of the PETCO Foundation and Round Up/Spay Today 2007 helps spay and neuter more dogs and cats every day. That means fewer litters of puppies and kittens born into a world where there are simply not enough homes for them all.
Customers at every PETCO store contributed to this life-changing fundraiser and on behalf of PETCO and the PETCO Foundation we thank all who participated for your kindness and willingness to help the animals.

Friday, August 03, 2007 PETCO Unleashes New Television Campaign
We just unleashed three new TV commercials. Click the links in the following press release to check them out. Enjoy!
PETCO Animal Supplies Inc. unveils a new television campaign created by M&C Saatchi Los Angeles this week. The humorous television commercials are now running nationally on network and cable outlets.
" What A Drag" focuses on PETCO's leadership in the natural pet food category. The creative highlights the benefits of natural pet food and the large selection available at PETCO. The spots utilize the overarching messaging theme "PETCO: Where the Pets Go," which is visually enhanced by an animated dog door. "These engaging television commercials differentiate PETCO from our competitors while stressing our superior product and service offerings," said David Bolen, PETCO Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer. "In this highly cluttered marketplace, we wanted a brutally simple creative approach that would stand out," explained Huw Griffith, Chief Executive Officer, M&C Saatchi North America. "Our goal was to keep the campaign fun and all about the pets."

Thursday, August 02, 2007 For a Life Like Jingles'
Sorry, this is a long one...
Recently, I ran into an elderly gentleman at an animal fundraiser who just had to tell me, with tears in his eyes, about his cat Jingles after he'd learned where I worked.
As he told me about how he and his wife adopted Jingles in 1988, he shared photos from their long life together: Jingles tangled in the wrappings of their grandson's first Christmas; family parties with the cat center stage; his wife in a hospital bed-- her hand on Jingles snuggling beside her. The final photo showed a young man sitting cross-legged beside a Christmas tree with a thinner, frailer Jingles in his lap. "My grandson," he said. "He's in his second year of college now."
Jingles had the kind of life that PETCO associates wish for every animal. Jingles' guardian's tears bore witness to his irreplaceable status with the family that loved him dearly and would never forget him.
Communities across the country are now in the middle of the annual tide known as "kitten season" that besieges shelters from mid-spring to late summer. Kittens pour into shelters daily. The litters, many of them feral and much too young to be motherless, overflow cat holding facilities, foster homes, and every unused inch of space in most shelters.
I was visiting one of our charitable partners recently when a determined, passionate young girl brought in five 4-week-old kittens. She had no idea what had happened to the mother cat. "You will take care of them and find them homes, won't you?" she asked.
After telling us the names she had given them, she solemnly kissed each one and wished them luck. Before turning to go, she swept the room with a long, piercing look and decided that this group was up to the task she had presented to them.
I was sorely tempted to foster them myself, but knew with my upcoming travel schedule it would be impossible, but I kept in touch with the organization. Within days, the kittens were with one of the group's foster families and thriving. It was heartening to know that the young girl who rescued them and their foster family did not see them as part of the flood of feline fertility that overwhelms shelters each year.
There is still a long "kitten season" ahead of us. Round Up/Spay Today 2007 will provide the formula, medical care, food, litter and the spaying and neutering that can transform the nameless multitude of felines into individual, cherished family companions like Jingles.
The Round Up/Spay Today Campaign ends this Sunday. For more information visit a PETCO near you or click here to donate online.
Thanks for making a difference!
